The Azawan quintet ('music' in Kabyle) is the fruit of a meeting between Didine Kati, an Algerian chaâbi musician, and Martin Guerpin, a jazz musician and musicologist trained in France, the United States and Canada.
Through arrangements of chaâbi pieces and original compositions, Azawan offers an original blend of jazz and chaâbi, at equal distance from folk and world music.
Following the release of their debut album 'Azawan' in 2022, the five musicians take us on a journey through chaâbi classics and Andalusian music, as well as 'chaâbised' jazz standards.
