Creole jazz: the affirmation of a soul
At Baiser Saléwe've always had a special place for Creole jazz.
Long before it was widely recognised, we chose to champion it, programme it and offer it a stage. More than twenty years ago, we were among the first to welcome gwo ka to a jazz club, affirming an open, pioneering vision that was ahead of its time.
A simple conviction has guided us from the start: jazz is not limited to a fixed tradition. It is, in essence, a music on the move, nourished by the cultures, territories and histories that run through it.
Creole jazz: an obvious musical choice for us
Creole jazz is not a 'variation' or a 'fringe' of jazz. It is jazz in its own right.
Jazz that breathes differently, that pulses differently, but that carries within it the same fundamentals: improvisation, dialogue, groove, individual expression within the collective.
A new generation on the move
This season we are proud to welcome three residencies that are fully in line with this dynamic: those of Béatrice Civaton, Xavier Belin and Lauriane Ludosky.
A recent article published by France-Antilles Hexagoneby Matthieu Lange, highlights this burgeoning scene, underlining its essential role in the diversity and renewal of today's musical landscape.
Three artists, three worlds, but the same desire: to bring together heritage and contemporary creation.
Three voices, three explorations
Béatrice Civaton - Racines Sonores
With Racines Sonores, Béatrice Civaton offers an intimate plunge into a world where jazz meets Caribbean rhythms.
Her songs, in French and Creole, sketch out a sensitive landscape, supported by a quintet and delicate improvisations. On stage, island memories become living, vibrant sound.
Xavier Belin - Pléonasme Season 4
Considered one of the new voices of West Indian jazz, Xavier Belin with Pléonasme is developing a unique approach to drumming.
Creole, Haitian, Caribbean: each concert features a different percussion instrument, explored in all its rhythmic and symbolic richness. Somewhere between contemporary piano and percussive traditions, her music links her heritages and opens up new perspectives.
Lauriane Ludosky - Sounds of...
With Sounds of..., Lauriane Ludosky invites us on a journey between contemporary jazz and Afro-Caribbean sounds.
Surrounded by musicians with strong identities, she builds an original repertoire where improvisation, rhythmic memory and modern textures meet. A free and profoundly contemporary exploration.
