CHARLIER & SOURISSE EUROPEAN QUINTET – TRIBUTE TO WAYNE SHORTER (Album 2027)

Benoît Sourisse & André Charlier have brought together a European quintet to explore the work of Wayne Shorter, a leading figure in modern jazz and a composer whose writing has left a profound mark on the history of the genre, from his years with Art Blakey and Miles Davis right through to Weather Report. Joined by British trumpeter Nick Smart, singer Malou Oheix and double bassist Massimo Cavalli, they revisit some of Shorter’s iconic compositions through a personal interpretation, drawing on their diverse artistic sensibilities and shared love of improvisation. This new project, conceived for the stage, forms part of the preparations for an album dedicated to the music of Wayne Shorter, due for release in 2027. Far from being a mere reproduction of the repertoire, the quintet seeks to bring the modernity, freedom and harmonic richness of this music to life today, creating a dialogue between Shorter’s legacy and the personalities of five musicians from the European jazz scene.
