XAVIER BELIN TRIO – PLEONASME 5

A pianist, composer and arranger from Martinique, Xavier Belin is establishing himself as one of the rising stars of contemporary jazz. Having made a name for himself with his debut album *Pitakpi*, named ‘Revelation’ by *Jazz Magazine*, he develops a musical style drawing on Caribbean rhythms, the Martinican tradition and jazz improvisation.

With PLÉONASME, Xavier Belin explores an obvious truth: jazz is, at its core, a Creole music, born of cross-fertilisation, transmission and cultural fusion. Through a repertoire of standards drawn from Creole regions – from Martinique to Haiti, and from Réunion to Trinidad – he highlights the deep connections between these cultures and the history of jazz.

For this fifth edition, PLÉONASME reinvents itself as a piano-bass-drums trio. A line-up in which ensemble playing, the groove and the rhythmic heritage take on a new dimension. Blending Caribbean melodies, modern jazz language and improvisation, Xavier Belin continues his exploration of musical Creolity: a living, evolving music that is passed on just as much as it transforms.

For the past 15 years, #JazzDeDemain has been supporting emerging artists through regular residencies, offering them a space for creation, experimentation and engagement with the public.
