McCoy Tyner has swept through the world of jazz like a force of nature: Coltrane’s pianist, the architect of modal sound, and an indispensable voice in half a century of music. *Tyner’s Legacy* pays tribute to this legacy by drawing not only on his own repertoire, but also on that of his fellow musicians — Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson — all linked to that pivotal era when jazz shifted towards something entirely new.
A trio of piano, double bass and drums, joined by saxophonist Sylvain Beuf: not a re-enactment, but a lively conversation with music that hasn’t aged a bit. Laurent Fickelson, on piano, knows this world intimately. Influenced by the Coltrane school, he has notably played alongside the Belmondo brothers and Yusef Lateef, a lineage that resonates naturally with Tyner’s legacy. Alongside him, Fabien Marcoz on double bass and Pierre-Eden Guilbaud on drums, together with Sylvain Beuf, form a quartet of musicians well-versed in modern jazz, where attentiveness, energy and freedom of expression breathe new life into this repertoire.
