The Vistel Brothers, Jorge on trumpet and Maikel on tenor sax, originally from Santiago de Cuba but now based in Europe, are clearly one of the big names in Afro-Cuban jazz today. Their music draws on Afro-Cuban traditions (Abakuá, Arará, Palo...), blends them with contemporary jazz and delivers a powerful groove. On stage, the trumpet and sax have a lively chat, the band improvise without restraint, and the intensity quickly builds, driven by a real sense of brotherly complicity. With their 'Fiesta en el Batey' project, a tribute to their hometown, they bring together song, percussion and avant-garde jazz for an intense, ultra-vibrant evening, somewhere between Afro-Cuban trance and modern urban energy. Surrounding them is a solid, inspired line-up: Benoît Delbecq on piano provides bold, modern textures, with a blend of finesse and harmonic surprises; Jean-Philippe Morel on bass lays down a deep, ultra-groovy foundation, both supple and solid; and Guilhem Flouzat, on percussion, adds his own special touch.on drums keeps the energy flowing, between Afro-Cuban pulses, swing and contemporary drive.
