Marjolaine Reymond, a passionate composer and explorer of human emotions, has written eight poems and invented a tale dotted with alexandrines and prose akin to surrealism, which she sets to music for 9 musicians.
With simplicity and naturalness, she explores the intense emotions aroused by an encounter with a wanderer.
"In a faraway kingdom, dressed all in rags, a man travelled the world with his dog.
He asked everyone for gold coins and a silver collar, the guarantee of a bond and love, for without it he could not love...
So much madness expressing wisdom, so much cruelty claiming to be love, fury giving way to pain and reborn like a victorious phœnix".
Like a symphonic poem, the string quartet's harmonic edifice, close to Fauré, Poulenc, Satie, Debussy, Dutilleux and Stravinsky, supports Impressionist melodies and blends with the pulsating metrics of contemporary music.
Artistic background: Trained at the Conservatoire, Marjolaine Reymond stands out for her ability to blend contemporary writing, jazz and chamber music. Her compositions have been performed at a number of festivals and concert halls in Europe, and she regularly collaborates with ensembles of musicians passionate about exploring sound and narrative. Her work is characterised by a sensibility that is both poetic and dramatic, where each project becomes a universe in its own right.
