MIGHTY JAB’S QUINTET – Jazz Caraïbes

When Xavier Mertian traveled to Trinidad, he became Mighty Jab, a name enthusiastically welcomed by local musicians: “Yes French man! Dis Calypsonian name is D one fo' yuh!” " Since then, this outstanding artist has been making his mark: a jazz vibraphonist, leader of impressive steelbands, and accomplished percussionist, he skillfully blends his passion for jazz and Caribbean rhythms. With the Mighty Jab Quintet, he has brought together an original and powerful group, and together they create a musical bridge between the Caribbean and jazz, mixing compositions by Jacques Schwarz Bart, Étienne Charles, Jaco Pastorius, Tony Williams, and of course Mighty Jab himself. The result? Warm, engaging music that draws on the tradition of steelbands as well as jazz improvisation, creating a lively and refined dialogue.
