MAGIC MALIK QUARTET XP
FESTIVAL JAZZ SUR SEINE 2025 - DEUX CONCERTS : 19h30 & 21h30
Recognized for his innovative ideas on groove and his research into a singular harmonic language, Magic Malik, flutist and composer with a radically personal approach, presents with his Quartet XP the culmination of a long-term project. The acronym “XP”, for “Experience”, refers to an artistic process that began over twenty years ago with the Magic Malik Orchestra, continued with the Fanfare XP, and was nurtured by numerous collaborations with major figures in contemporary jazz. Trained at the Marseille Conservatory, Malik Mezzadri has developed a unique aesthetic blending learned writing, free improvisation, polyrhythm and sound exploration. His virtuoso flute playing, vocalized, blown and sometimes saturated, makes him an unclassifiable and essential musician - described by Télérama as “the best flautist in French jazz”. Today, with Quartet XP, he invites you to an immersive experience on the frontiers of jazz, trance and the unexpected. Joining him are Maïlys Maronne on piano, Jean-Luc Lehr on bass, and Vincent Sauve on drums, an inventive trio whose music is as demanding as it is generous. This tightly-knit group allows for total freedom of expression, fluid dialogue and a space open to all kinds of daring.
In parallel with this residency, in 2024 he released the album Jazz Association: Le Baiser Salé Live, recorded during concerts at the Paris club. An incandescent recording, where risk-taking rubs shoulders with rare rhythmic precision, critically acclaimed for its intensity and freshness.
Throughout the 2025-2026 season, Magic Malik and his musicians will be in residence twice a month at Le Baiser Salé, a leading Parisian jazz venue, to explore new forms and new sound textures live, and to share with the public the lively evolution of their musical research. A rare opportunity to experience music in motion, at once free, sensitive and deeply organic.
