Between audacity and finesse, this quintet unfolds a musical universe where contemporary jazz, Latin jazz, funk, nu-jazz and pop intertwine with elegance and vitality. Through inventive collective writing, it reinterprets the traditional roles of the jazz quintet to create an intense, fluid and moving sonic experience. Formed in 2020, the quintet brings together five young artists, all graduates of the Centre des Musique Didier Lockwood (CMDL), whose assertive universes are bound together by an open, sensitive and contemporary vision of jazz. On trumpet and compositions, Édouard Monnier, initiator of the project, impresses with the precision of his playing, his harmonic richness and his acute sense of composition, nurtured by a dual background in jazz and classical music. Abdelbari Fannush, on tenor saxophone, boasts a deep, lived-in sound, a phrasing inspired by the great jazz figures, and an intuitive approach to language. Nina Gat, on piano, adds a luminous, melodic touch; her ability to blend jazz, pop and folk with subtlety gives each piece a singular color. On double bass, Simon Desbiolles anchors the group with rhythmic sensitivity and a musicality rooted in both tradition and experimentation. Together, they form a group with a coherent aesthetic, rich in contrasts and musical dialogues nourished by their diverse backgrounds and influences, from Ezra Collective to Shai Maestro, from Kenny Wheeler to the Jazz Messengers. Their music draws on warm rhythms, powerful grooves, nuanced textures and enveloping melodies, translating a sonic crossbreeding that is both sincere and contemporary.
