The 19th edition of the #FestivalEstivalDeJam comes to a close in style, with an evening entirely dedicated to the blues, the founding genre that influenced all popular music of the 20th century, from jazz and rock to soul and funk. Born in the cotton fields of the American South, the blues is at once a cry of revolt and a song of sorrow, but also a space for freedom and improvisation. Mythical figures such as Robert Johnson, Bessie Smith, Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf laid the foundations of this musical language, which has since nurtured entire generations of artists, from Jimi Hendrix and Etta James to Eric Clapton, Janis Joplin and Nina Simone. For this final evening of the festival, François Constantin has surrounded himself with musicians capable of capturing every nuance: Rachel Plas, one of the few female harmonica players to perform on European blues stages, whose expressive playing is distinguished as much by her technique as by her sense of phrasing. Philippe Hervouet, a guitarist with a fine touch and sober vocals, embodies acoustic blues tinged with modernity. Guillaume Farley, an unclassifiable and creative musician, injects his bass with a groovy, subtly offbeat energy. And Lucas Dauchez, a drummer with an eclectic background, anchors it all with precision and flexibility. The evening begins with a full band concert, followed by a jam session open to all.
