JAM SESSION avec ETIENNE MBAPPE

If there is one thing that goes through the ages of jazz, it is its unalterable connection with improvisation. And it is in the jam sessions that this magic takes on its full dimension: total freedom, unforeseen encounters, raw energy. For this 19th edition of the Festival, the Club hosts an emblematic musician, whose history is intimately linked to this place: Étienne Mbappé. This great name of jazz and world music has a real love affair with the Club, started in the 1980s, while he played every evening at Caf'Conc, rue Saint-Denis. As soon as he had the opportunity, he would climb up the stairs to listen to what was going on on this little stage. A scene that he knows today better than anyone, after decades of music, sweat and passion shared between its walls. Originally from Bonendale, in the sawa lands of Cameroon, Étienne Mbappé was born in 1964. Very quickly, his talent is established: virtuoso bassist, inspired composer and true showman, he is now recognized as one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. His particular game, with gloves, gives him an inimitable sound signature – a fineness of touch and a skin-flowered expressiveness that distinguishes him in all scenes in the world. He has left his mark on the history of the Club with bands that have become cult: Rido Bayonne, Casino, Ultramarine, Chic'hot, Su La Take, The Prophetes, Nec. COUNTRY SIDE – African Blues Country Folk Pop Music – An extended name, like its creativity without borders.
