Isaías Alves Quartet

Drummer and composer Isaías Alves hails from São Luís do Maranhão - the birthplace of such great Brazilian artists as pianist Tânia Maria, Alcione, Zeca Baleiro and Anna Torres, among others - and proposes to celebrate “New Brazilian Jazz” with a unique and innovative approach. This project is a creative fusion between contemporary jazz and the rich rhythmic and melodic elements of northeastern Brazil, with a particular focus on the musically-charged culture of the state of Maranhão. Surrounded by Yo on sax, Daniel Gassin on piano and Gabriel on double bass, Isaías will offer original compositions that capture the essence of iconic cultural traditions such as tambor de crioula and bumba meu boi, reinterpreted in a sophisticated, universal jazz language. His creative work includes the album Lanka and his participation in the intercontinental project Odyssey - produced with artists from Spain, Cuba and India - affirming his commitment to the fusion of ancestral and modern.
