Founded by Etienne Mbappé (bassist to John McLaughlin, Joe Zawinul, Salif Keita...), NEC+ was born in April 2019, on the stage of the Baiser salé Jazz Club and brings together, around the bassist with his black silk-gloved hands, the magic sticks of Nicolas Viccaro on drums, and the harmonic finesse, melodic beauty, and heart-rending bow of Christophe Cravero, on piano and violin. Three names, a three-letter project, a rhythmic bass/drums base facing the electric flights of the keyboard, an evening where fusion is legion! The three musicians know each other well, having toured the world with Etienne Mbappé's Les Prophets. The alchemy is there, it's known and recognized, and in the end it extends into a trio format, a playground for 3 jazz giants! NEC+ distills intense, surprising, singing, dancing music... with a resolutely jazz sound, sometimes blown by winds from Africa and elsewhere. Airy music, where crystalline harmonies embrace caressing melodies; earthy, where wild rhythms express an audacious thirst for freedom. The trio fuses genres, giving pride of place to improvisation.
