A wizard of the claves, Jorge Vistel belongs to a generation of Cuban musicians for whom, far from nostalgia, the traditions of their native island constitute a highly sophisticated rhythmic breeding ground, which they attempt to assimilate with the most contemporary jazz concepts. It comes as no surprise to learn that he studied with Steve Coleman, and that Greg Osby released one of his albums on his own label ten years ago.
