JAM DU DIMANCHE DE RONAN RISTORD
Hommage à Ahmad Jamal - 20H30
The "Jam du Dimanche" is a friendly gathering where musicians come together to improvise. This weekly session offers a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for experimentation and spontaneous musical creation! A disciple of the legendary Gregory Hutchinson, Ronan Ristord is the drummer of the moment. A Berklee College of Music alumnus and a highly regarded sideman on the Paris jazz scene, he is now stepping into the spotlight as a leader. His music is deeply rooted in swing and jazz standards, yet always honors what makes this art form so beautiful: improvisation!
For this Sunday jam, Ronan pays tribute to pianist Ahmad Jamal, born Frederick Russell Jones on July 2, 1930, in Pittsburgh. Jamal was an American jazz pianist and composer, recognized as one of the most influential musicians in jazz history, with a career spanning over seven decades. Miles Davis often cited Ahmad Jamal as a major influence, admiring his use of space and minimalist approach to the piano. Jamal reinvented himself over the decades, continuing to record and perform with boundless creativity. He passed away on April 16, 2023, leaving behind a musical legacy that continues to inspire musicians around the world.
