ROGER BIWANDU BORDEAUX QUINTET
DEUX CONCERTS : 19H30 & 21H30
"Roger Biwandu is a 'sharp' drummer both in his playing and in his choices. He subtly offers us a musical return to the past decades where groove, swing, and performance were key. Through his compositions, we find ourselves in the heart of the seventies, on the East Coast of North America, thanks to an elegant reinterpretation of this timeless musical heritage." — Manu Katché Roger Biwandu reveals music inspired by the jazz tradition of African-American roots, influenced by Africa and the Caribbean, with a touch of pop. To put it succinctly, Roger describes his music as a blend of Branford and Wynton Marsalis with Michael Jackson. You see? An evening dedicated to a musician whose name is etched into the walls of the club: drummer for Chic Hot, Joe Zawinul, Salif Keita, and more. Roger Biwandu brings together a 100% Bordeaux quintet for a return to the roots. Featuring an exceptional brass duo, both inspired by the legendary Branford and Wynton Marsalis, who are also heroes to Roger. Mickaël Chevalier (trumpet/bugle) and Jean-Christophe Jacques (tenor/soprano saxophone) are two magnificent talents who set the tone and color of this "Bordeaux Quintet," whose jazz music is deeply rooted in African-American traditions. On piano, Hervé Saint-Guirons offers his excellent sense of melody with refined, subtle playing and perfect accompaniment. On double bass, Nolwenn Martin-Leizour provides impeccable tempo and a rare sense of rhythm! Roger Biwandu, with his lively playing, eclectic musical culture, desire to share, and festive spirit, delivers a guaranteed successful performance!
