There’s a story behind Andy Narell’s choice of instrument… His father brought the steel pan to New York with the aim of encouraging street children to join steel bands. Having become an ambassador for this unusual instrument, he was one of the first to incorporate it into jazz, which gives him a unique place within the fusion genre. From calypso to world music, via orchestras, not to mention collaborations with Hugh Masekela, Michael Brecker and Mike Stern, Andy Narell is constantly exploring!

This trio did not come about by chance: blessed with a poignant voice, rich low notes and impeccable phrasing, she was spotted by Nina Simone’s producer, Henri Salvador, and Richard Galliano, Jany McPherson shares a long-standing musical partnership with Andy Narell, notably through the recording of a duo album.

On stage, the interplay between Narell’s steel pans, the piano and McPherson’s voice, carried by Tenorio’s fiery percussion, promises a journey from the Caribbean to jazz via Cuba; an encounter between cultures and rare timbres, at once intimate and explosive.
