4 brilliant musicians and an inspired double bassist: Jean Bardy returns with Au Café des Angesten years after his duet with Hungarian pianist Emil Spanyi on Very Blue. This time, he takes us along in a quartet... and a quintet on two tracks, with the magic touch of accordionist Marc Berthoumieux.
Jean Bardy weaves a universe in which jazz converses naturally with his first love, rock-folk, with a few bluesy touches thrown in for good measure. On the programme: energy, swing, but also a great deal of finesse.
There are superb double bass intros, warm, enveloping tones, a touch of melancholy at times... and above all, the simple, infectious pleasure of playing together, evident in every note.
