Nathan Mollet's music is deeply personal, almost introspective. It's a fine, sensitive style, shaped over the years by a combination of intuition and meticulous work. His projects, the fruit of long hours of research and piano playing, are born of a simple but essential desire: to create a sincere bond with the listener, inviting him into a universe where each note tells of an emotion, a moment, a breath.
Trained by the great jazz masters - Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Hank Jones - and influenced by contemporary artists such as Pat Metheny, Avishai Cohen, Ben Wendel, Tigran Hamasyan and Pedro Martins, Nathan has developed a musical language that is both rooted in tradition and resolutely forward-looking.
Even as a child, he was improvising, inventing loops, playing with silences and surprises. For him, the piano has become a space of total freedom, capable of expressing both gentleness and élan, contemplation and audacity. With an ever-widening palette of nuances, he explores varied emotional territories, leaving room for the unexpected, the sensitive, the living.
Alongside jazz, his compositions are now open to other aesthetics: pop, electronic music, folk and alternative. His inspirations are manifold - from the Beatles to Radiohead, and including Nick Drake, Saya Gray, Sampha and Louis Cole - and enrich a singular, hybrid and poetic universe of sound.
During his residency at Baiser Salé, Nathan will be surrounded by musicians who will add new colours to each concert. More than just a series of dates, this residency is conceived as a creative laboratory, a testing ground where sharing and emotion are at the heart of every performance.
